What do you get when you combine a Hellcat engine with the longest suspension ever mounted on a pickup? That’s right, a 700+ hp strong off-road beast. Welcome to the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX!
The TRX is a worthy successor to the equally crazy Dodge Ram SRT10 (with the V10 engine from the Dodge Viper), which was launched in 2004. Where the latter was known to be rather unmanageable, the Ram 1500 TRX is a performance pickup that has been designed down to the smallest detail.
The now infamous “Hellcat” HEMI V8 engine measures 6.2 litres and is equipped with a mechanical roots supercharger. This absolute brute delivers 712 hp and an enormous torque of 881 Nm. Fortunately, this power is distributed over all four wheels, otherwise there probably wouldn’t be much left of the tyres.
At home in the sand and on the drag strip
Clearly, this version is designed to tear through off-road terrain as hard as possible. So many modifications have been made for this, which is why the TRX will be a completely separate version in the Ram 1500 range. Just like the Raptor in the F-150 line-up.
The car stands taller and the bodywork is much wider than the regular Ram 1500. The 35” Goodyear Wrangler Territory tyres are mounted on 18” rims, which are optionally also available in a bead lock-ready version. The Bilstein Blackhawk E2 shock absorbers, specially developed for the TRX, ensure maximum contact between the tyres and the road surface, for optimum grip and control.
Despite the TRX’s professional off-road capabilities, its performance on the road has also been taken into account. In fact, it lends itself perfectly to a traffic light sprint or even a drag race! That's why every version of the Ram 1500 TRX is equipped with launch control for maximum acceleration. A sprint to 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) should be possible in an incredible 4.5 seconds!
Unique in every respect
The TRX badges - which can be found in many places - are more than just a name sticker. This model is unique both inside and out, with many details that distinguish it from the “normal” Ram 1500s. There are unique features in the interior like the special TRX seats, a red start button, a flattened racing steering wheel with gearshift levers and bright red colour accents.
The exterior is even more striking, for example with its bonnet with air vents for cooling and a large functional air extractor at the front, which feeds air into the air intake. What's more, the mudguards are visibly wider than on its “smaller brother” the Ram 1500 Rebel. The RAM logo in the grille also allows air through in this version, for optimal cooling of the engine. The custom made “truck bed bar” with LED lighting in the cargo bed is also an eye-catcher.
What’s in a name
It’s clear that Ram is out to beat its biggest competitor - the Ford F-150 Raptor. And what’s even bigger and more brutal than the F-150 Raptor named after the Velociraptor? Indeed, a Tyrannosaurus Rex or the T-Rex. Hence the name TRX!
When will it be available?
The first Ram TRX specimens are expected to be available in early 2021. We still don’t know when they’ll be available in the Netherlands, but we'll definitely announce it as soon as we know. If yo
