2019 Ram 1500: Exterior
Hammer time
The 2019 Ram 1500 has been completely redesigned, with its designers taking their inspiration from different types of hammers when drawing the lines and choosing the materials; from solid sledgehammers to stylish claw hammers.
Larger cab, more space
To get straight to the point; the Crew cab of the new model is huge. Because the cab has been expanded by no less than 10 centimetres, there’s more interior space than ever before. The whole vehicle is now longer, which also gives the new Ram an unprecedented road presence. This doesn’t come across completely in the images, but you'll realise the difference when you see it.
New wheels
Of course, a new look also includes new rims. The wheel design is outstanding and well matched to the various designs. They’re also larger than before, with a maximum size of 22” compared to 20” for the current model.
Assistive technology
There are technical gadgets integrated everywhere. For your comfort, as well as your safety. For example, the cars come equipped with blind spot sensors, lane guidance and parking sensors with auto stop.
2019 Ram 1500: Engines
eTorque hybrid
The rumours are absolutely true - the 2019 Ram 1500 will be available as a hybrid! Before you choke on your coffee, this is basically a mild hybrid system, which only supports the combustion engine in specific situations. The system has been given the name “eTorque” and consists of an electric motor/generator (which replaces the alternator) connected to a 48-volt battery, which is concealed behind the rear seat.
The system delivers 122 Nm of torque on the V6 and 175 Nm to the V8 engine, but this torque is used to relieve the load on the engine and not to deliver total extra torque or (system) power. The electric motor automatically engages as soon as there is heavy acceleration and to allow the V8 engine to run on 4 cylinders for longer when cylinder shutdown is active. In addition, it ensures a smoother changeover from the standard 8-speed automatic gearbox. It also functions as a lightning-fast (? 400 milliseconds) start/stop system and can recover braking energy to make the Ram 1500 even more efficient.
The same base engine
As far as the engines are concerned, there’s plenty of news to report, even though the basic line-up isn’t changing. For example, the 3.6 V6 Pentastar, which hasn't been very popular in the Netherlands, remains the basic engine. The specifications of 305 hp and 365 Nm also remain unchanged. However, the block is getting a number of updates to make it more efficient, such as variable valve timing with a larger working area and variable valve lift with two positions. As it looks now, this engine will be coupled as standard to the eTorque system and the 8-speed Torqueflite 850RE automatic gearbox.
It’s a HEMI
Fans can rest assured; the most powerful 2019 Ram 1500 engine will thankfully remain the 5.7 V8 HEMI engine, which will be coupled to
